Alright. My mom is being completely unreasonable. She's paying 120 dollars a year for a Vietnamese class at my church that i don't want. I could use the money she's wasting for the art classes I've always wanted.
The teachers can't teach anything that'll stick with me for the rest of my life. At best, they give you a couple of words you have to memorize for that week. How is that going to teach me how to speak, write, and read Vietnamese any better?
I already know how to speak a bit, even though i'm only half Vietnamese. I'll be able to hold a conversation, understand what's being said, and such but what i really lack is being able to read and write Viet. Not to mention i'm not as fluent in my speaking as i want to be.
So, my question is, how can i speak, write, and read Vietnamese? Are there lessons online? Some tricks so i can pick more up?

My family is froum southern china (guangzhou), so I'm shorter, darker (darker than my mum and dad sometimes) and have larger eyes. I'm missing the height and the skin tone! Damn, if only my parents from the middle of china
JOKES
Well, my question is...what are the actual physical features of filipino or vietnamese people?
(Vietmanese girls at school would speak to me in vietnamese, not realising im not viet. My filipino friend's brother thought i was filo :l I didn't know whether to be flattered or offended, because my filo friend's family had a light complexion LAWL)

I looked it up on Wikipedia, and after some further research, I found that it is absolutely true that almost all Vietnamese surnames are Chinese in origin. My last name is Lê, which is the Vietnamese pronunciation of the Chinese character, 黎, or Lí in pinyin. In fact, my whole name is Sino-Vietnamese. There isn't a single native Viet word in my name. The surname Nguyễn is 阮(Ruǎn), and Trần is 陈(Chén). Why is this? I know that most Viets take their surnames from royal dynasties, why did they do that? And why did Vietnamese kings take Chinese last names?
If you don't believe me or want to know more, here's a site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnamese_names
adiavoy, your last name is, I'm assuming, Đào. It would be 陶(Táo) in Chinese.

I can speak it well but I wanted to ask because their isn't any consideration of gay or lesbian in the language itself.

My wife is Vietnamese and she speaks Viet fluently. I am in the Army and if I learn Vietnamese I can take a proficiency test and make anywhere between -0 extra every month. And i only have to take the test once a year. I dont even have to USE the language ever. Just test on it is all. I get Rosetta Stone free from the Army and its helping a lot, but Im trying to find like a class or something I can take. No schools offer Vietnamese. Does anyone have any ideas?
By the way, I live in Denver CO.... I guess thats pretty important lol.
Im also interested in a Study Abroad... Maybe. Depending on price and length. But thats for later on!
I went to the VPS website and found the downloads link but cant find where to actually download it at.

I don't look Vietnamese at all but whenever I go to a Viet market or festival they speak to me in Vietnamese. I ask why. They say it's because I look like the mixed white-Asians. Firstly, are there so many over there and did many immigrate to Western countries. Secondly, do they think I'm old (mid-30s)? I assume the mixed races would be products from Vietnam. I'm in my late 20s.
It's a huge market, like a Wal-mart. All races shop there.

Okay, so I'm vietnamese/white. I go to a basically an all white school. My best friend is full viet and so yeah. This guy told us we were ugly Koreans and then left. My best friend ignored it, but I thought it was racist. Then another guy called me coco puffs and then another girl called me wheat bread and then they just basically made fun of me. They said my eyes are too squinty and that my voice sounded really annoying and they yelled at me when I would talk to my best friend in vietnamese. why do people do this! This didn't happen in elemetary, and this is middle school, but why are people mean to viets and koreans! help

Like, okay
this is in Aus.
My friends at school are viet, and im a chink.
I always feel really left out because they tend to talk with their own language, and i just stand their while they talk to their other vietnamese friend. And sometimes in class i try to talk to them and they are so in a conversation they cant hear me.
And i've realised that when they are only around other vietnamese people they are open and they laugh and everything. And its not just them.
Or is it just me? I dont want to be racist or offend anyone.

IF you put in "will justin beiber ever hit puberty" in English translater to Vietnamese, and copy the VIetnamese translation, and translate it right back to english
it will say "justin bieber will never hit puberty" lol amazing how it answers
But my real question, did u ever hear of vietnamese language/people untill that joke?
lol I am viet just asking if others new about us, until the bieber joke came out
they are not a nation of mute, but a nation of violence, and corrupted, its better than mexico, cuz the govenrment officials have their own way of getting money, and treating criminals.
Vietnamese officers, are basically already bribed by the governemtn, so no other gangs can bribe them, thus creating the ultimate police force, with brutality.

I never met them.LOL I really don't care and it won't change my identity anyway unless I find out I'm adopted. That would be a shocker but I'm not.
Really just curious if they are a lot of mixed people in Vietnam since that's what I'm mistaken for and also if I look older because aren't the mixed-Viets 35+. Do they really think I'm that old.

I just saw her on Paris by Night singing "Ice Queen" and looked her up and the internet says she can sing English and Vietnamese, but most of her songs are in English and she didn't say anything in Vietnamese on Paris by Night so I was wondering if she even spoke Viet.
I also observed her singing and she wasn't really all that great as people make her out to be. Her voice sounds like a little kid and the lyrics to "Ice Queen" was really repetitive than most songs and it wasn't catchy as people make her songs out to be. Have people really overstated her "talents" or was "Ice Queen" just a really bad song?
Not to bash on her or anything, I'm simply stating my opinion and I'm wondering if anybody can agree with me or think I'm judging too soon based on just one unimpressive performance?

Hi.. I was wondering what the word "lou" meant. (not sure of spelling ... just sounded like loo or lou)
It is apparently an offensive word (the person who was told they were lou was very pissed off), but i'm not quite sure in what context. i'm pretty fluent in viet but i don't understand this word..
going through some stuff right now and i'd appreciate the help

I can speak and understand Vietnamese fluently but I did not understand a word that they scream out during battle. Are they really speaking Viet? I'm sure a games company with a large budget should be able to get some REAL vietnamese speech in the game instead of random gibberish that SOUNDS a little Vietnamese. Could else anyone understand it?

I'm Vietnamese, but I live in the United States all my life so I can barely speak Vietnamese. My grandparents are coming to visit and they always speak to me in Viet, and so I usually just nod my head awkwardly.
I figured I might as well learn to speak it better, so are there any websites or dictionary programs that not only translates from Vietnamese to English, but has a sound byte of how to say the Vietnamese word? Thanks.

I have this viet guy friend who keeps saying things in viet to me and won't tell me what they mean. :/ Can someone who's actually viet tell me? I've used translators but never get anything that makes sense.
I think it was...
Alyson thich an cho or Alyson thich anh cho.
Something like that. But I'm not sure it was spelled like this. Just something close to that. If it doesn't make sense, tell me what you think he meant or something because no translators work and I don't get it.
