I go to a nail salon that is run mostly my people who speak English as a second language. I believe that they are Vietnamese. Will they know what I'm talking about if I ask for a half moon manicure?? Or will I sound crazy? Thanks!

Okay I was the other days at a nail salon (yes, I'm metro) and while I was talking to the girl taking care of me I asked her about whether the capital of VietNam was either Hanoi or Saigon. Trying to keep the conversation going. She shook her head when I mentioned Hanoi and emphatically responded with Saigon. Then she began talking with other employees in Vietnamese and next thing I know they're gathered around her. While I don't understand the language, I did pick up the words, Hanoi, Saigon, and Ho Chi Minh. It's not like they appeared angry or anything but I sorta perceived they might've been making fun of me among themselves. So for my question, was the question I asked considered offensive or rude or whatnot among the Vietnamese population? And second, just out of curiosity, what could they've been saying about me?
okay in concern to the last answerer, I was under the impression that they were making fun of me b/c of the tone they were speaking in and certain gestures they were making. I speak 2 other languages besides English and lived the first 14 years of my life in a country that was not the US

I'm interested(pretty much in love) with this Vietnamese girl. She seems to come from a strong vietnamese background even though she has been in america for quite some time. We have went on a date, and it was with her and her siblings. According to things I have read on the internet, that is a natural process in dating a vietnamese girl(being family oriented). We don't talk on the phone at all unless it is to make plans or break plans. I am shy around her but not a shy person in general and I believe she is shy with me. I feel that she is interested due to the fact that she accepted the date. I don't know how she feels after our date due to the fact that we were supposed to hang out the next day to play pool with her and her siblings and when I called to see what was going on that night, she cancelled because of a family party she had to go to. She said she would call me though. I would totally go through the traditional courting if it meant being with this girl. Looking for advice.
I'm 29 and she is 21.
She works @ her uncles nail salon 7 days a week. She can't hang out during the week and only is available to come hang out on the weekend.
I met her brother, sister, and family friend father. I was on my best behavior being polite. I made some basic physical contact with her by placing my arm against hers and making sure to stand beside her at all times. We haven't kissed or hugged or anything yet.
She told me that she would call me, but I would like to talk to her on the phone and find out more about her traditions and culture and what I should expect as far as me being allowed to date her.
I'm not trying to just get laid, I am hoping for a serious and happy relationship.
On our date, I payed for her and her siblings without thinking twice or looking at her as if i expected something from her. I also made sure to get along with her siblings and being cool with them like giving them high fives when they did well when bowling.
since we were only at the bowling alley and there wasn't alot there, i tried to be sweet by getting her a ring from the .25 machine and also a stuffed animal keychain which she said was really cute and she seemed to like it. She also like the ring and put it on immediately and said she wanted a real one in which i chuckled.

Why are there so many Vietnamese nail salons?
And when you go to one do you ever feel like some of the ladies are talking about you?
You know somone is when they are talking and laughing and looking right at you.
This is a silly question but yesterday I went to a nail salon to get my eyebrows waxed and realized that 95% of hair/nail salons in town were Vietnamese owned.

and talk behind their backs?
it's not like the customers have any right to complain and claim that the nail salon people were talking behind their backs because they don't even understand vietnamese.
js A, you're him. don't deny it. yeah i think. try geenie's lamp on my contacts. that's his account also

When people ask me where my parents are from, I say Vietnam but that we're Chinese though. From my appearance, many people guess Vietnamese and I have to go through the same explanation again haha.
My parents can speak Vietnamese but I can only speak Cantonese and Mandarin besides English. I do have an ear for identifying Vietnamese but that's about it. My household eats Chinese and Vietnamese food. I know quite a number of Vietnamese dishes and very little of the Vietnamese language. I plan to learn Vietnamese not too far in the future. My parents express a desire to visit Vietnam again but nothing about China.
I don't have any relatives that work in a nail salon or laundromat.. haha so what do you think I should identify as?
I was born in the U.S.

Like in the nail salon when they all they all speak Vietnamese?
Why do you assume that I don't like it? I was just posing a question. God. Maybe you should be questioning why you think I hate it? Plus my daughter knows Spanish and she's caught people saying stuff about us. Same thing for my friend who knows French. Personally it makes me feel a little left out, but if you're around it enough you can start picking up bits of the language. Ok?
