I just turned 18, freshmen in College and I have a 22 year old Vietnamese boyfriend. I love him a lot and he loves me as well. But the thing is, I can tell his mom does not like me at all.
I'm Asian as well, half Laotian and half Tai-dam, so I know it's not a racial issue. They came to America when my boyfriend was only 8, so she's very traditional. She really wants him to marry a Viet girl, so I think she hates me just because I'm not Viet. At first when I met her she LOVED me, she saw me she came up to me started hugging and kissing me right away. She even started crying and made me pinky promise to be with her Son, and to always love him. Its pretty much because she's at the stage where she wants grandchildren already. I don't think she realizes how young I am. She also kept staring at me and kept commenting on how beautiful I was and how happy she was her son finally found someone like me. Of course she said this in Viet, my boyfriend had to translate for me. I loved her at first, but in a couple weeks, I got a bad vibe from her. I'm wonderful with parents/grandparents and I can tell when people like me. And I could tell she didn't like me, she wouldn't smile at me any more or talk to me, and she'd always find some reason to yell at my boyfriend for just because she couldn't yell at me. She even cancelled my boyfriend's cell phone plan so he wouldn't be able to talk to me. This came out of no where! I didn't do anything or say anything to her. I'm very cultured, which is very rare to find a kid in my generation like that now a days. So I know how to be respectful and polite. Now I don't ever want to go over to his house knowing that his mother hates me. He even told me he doesn't think she likes me either. Oh yeah i forgot to mention I'm going to school 2 hours away from him, so I don't see him as much. I'm a good person, I'm a simple girl, infact I always offer to pay for him when we go out, Mcdees would make a good enough date for me, I'm a great cook, I'm studying to be a doctor, I model, really family oriented, respectful, nice, drama free, & do volunteer work to help with kids. What more can she ask for!? Also I'm trying really hard to learn Vietnamese just for her, but the language is soo hard, its soo different from the other two I already know. Any Advice?
P.S. I'm sorry this is really lengthy!

Hi! My boyfriend and his family is from Vietnam, I am going to be meeting his parents in December and I want to be able to have a little conversation with them since his mom does not speak English and his dad is not very fluent. My boyfriend gave me some CD's and a book which are helpful but I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions for software, books, etc. that will help me. I am having a little trouble pronouncing and with the marks over and under the letters... :S. Thank you in advance.

Alright. My mom is being completely unreasonable. She's paying 120 dollars a year for a Vietnamese class at my church that i don't want. I could use the money she's wasting for the art classes I've always wanted.
The teachers can't teach anything that'll stick with me for the rest of my life. At best, they give you a couple of words you have to memorize for that week. How is that going to teach me how to speak, write, and read Vietnamese any better?
I already know how to speak a bit, even though i'm only half Vietnamese. I'll be able to hold a conversation, understand what's being said, and such but what i really lack is being able to read and write Viet. Not to mention i'm not as fluent in my speaking as i want to be.
So, my question is, how can i speak, write, and read Vietnamese? Are there lessons online? Some tricks so i can pick more up?

i'm hispanic and vietnamese but i dont speak either is that weird. I had a person say i was weird because i took spanish at school when i'm already hispanic and dont know it . and this girl that is vietnamese said "forget you", because she was happy when i said i was vietnamese, but then she got mad when i said i didnt speak it. i guess its because i didnt tell her i was also hispanic.
i think the reason i dont speak it is because my parents divorced at my age of 4 and my mom thought it was too much to teach me any language but english

I'm having an eight grade Orchestra concert for Christmas and theres a line I have to say which is: Now off to Vietnam, where we hear "Jingle Bells" with the flavor of the Far East.
I'm Vietnamese and I can speak it also but I don't know how to read or write it. I asked my mom for help but since she doesn't know alot of English she can't translate it from English to Vietnamese. I tried google translator and this is what it said: Trả ra cho Việt Nam, nơi mà chúng tôi nghe "Jingle Bells" với hương vị của phía đông đến nay.
My mom said its wrong so could you please translate it and please try to include the symbols. Also I don't know if this will help but my family is from Ho Chi Min (South Vietnam). Please and thank you!

I'm going to Vietnam in the summer to visit my family that I've never met before. I'm half white and half Vietnamese. I'm only 13 & I don't speak the language very well.. I'm a very obnoxious girl and I don't know what they would think of me if I act like myself. I'm nervous about meeting them and what they'll think of me. My mom is going with me and she speaks te language because well, it's her family of course. But I'd like some advice of how I should communicate or act around them.. Thanks. (:

ever since i was little. i have really black hair and they say like im the grudge. i live in the US and i don't have an accent. i was born here and raised here. I know how to speak both language and alot of people at my church that was born here don't know how to. i speak vietnamese with my parents and english when i go out to school and when i talk to my sister and brothers. what do i say when they ask me if i'm Chinese? I don't want to tell them what my race is. I'm not ashamed but then they ask alot of questions and stuff. i usually say im Asian b/c i am then they just don't say anything. i have a Lao algebra teacher and some girl said i looked like her i felt really offended b/c they thought she was my mom when we don't have the same last name.

My Vietnamese cousin and her Albanian husband have a beautiful 2 year old daughter. She knows a few English words and combines them with baby babble.
The mom speaks vietnamese to her and the dad speaks english.
Both parents speak nearly perfect english and both speak their native languages when relatives visit(which is often).
I'm sure hearing 3 different languages in the household is playing a role in the kid's language development. I'm worried that she'll be learning a lot slower than the other kids.

I really want to learn. i know how to read some words, but most is all from guessing. i was wondering if there was any way i could learn how to write or read online for free. Or anything that could help me at all. i want to learn the basics such as the alphabet and the dots and all the marks(sorry, i dont know how to spell it so i just said that.) lol.
