I speak English... duh obviously Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, French, Vietnamese, Cantonese, and learning Greek right now.
What do you speak? Challenge me and in two weeks I can speak that language. In fact, we can speak any language we want. Well, at least I have this ability.
My challenge for you: can you speak all those languages, learn some more and still be humble?
Are you trying to compare me with Moses? No, I'm not humble since I'm 29 and have lots to learn.
Dutch, you'll never learn dutch like the real dutchman, try say Scheveningen, you can't, obviously
You pompous little man
Lol. Can you say "NO"? It's the hardest word to everyone. If you haven't come to your sense yet, then you say it's easy, you pretentious big man.
Hey The Corinthian, are you a fan or a player of the Corinthians soccer team? I played in this team in 2006.

Hi Everybody
I am planning on going to either Vietnam or Fiji where it will be Autumn in Vietnam and Spring in Fiji.
(Hemisphere wise)
Which would be a better choice keeping in mind:
- Safety
- Price
- Activities or places to visit
- Languages spoken
Any help would be much appreciated
Thank you in advance

I'm in the healthcare field and want to be able to do basic communication and conversation with people of different nationalities. I have an affinity for languages but often companies charge a phenomenal amount of money to teach you. I am a quick study, fast learner and am self-motivated. I just need a starting place, maybe some on-line programs or websites.

It seems like it would be a bit difficult for them to do that. I've listened to songs with those languages and it doesn't sound like there are tones, but i don't know for sure.

Where you drafted for the war?
What year was this?
Who was the President at this time?
How old were you when you started with you involvement with the war?
When did you start training and what kinds of things did they do to train you?
What languages did you need to know or learned through your experience?
Were you in North Vietnam or South Vietnam or neither?
What was your role in the war?
Could you describe what your typical day was like for you?
How if at all was life different for you while you were involved in the war?
Describe what it was like there that you remember.
Is there any lifelong lesson(s) you learned while involved with this war?
Would you ever want to relive any of your experiences during the Vietnam War?
How often if ever did you get to come visit your family?
How long were your visits?
Do you think your parents approved of your involvement in the war?
What did you miss the most when you were away from home?
What did you wish for the most when you were in the war?
Where you happy when the war ended?
Did you have to go through any sort of long process to get home?
thank you so much!

She is already going to an American public school, reading books, watching DVD movies with subtitles and a dictionary, and practicing with me whenever I have the time. I've heard of programs like Rosetta Stone or Pimsleur, but they are for native English speakers to learn other languages. Is there anything similar that non-English speakers can use to learn English? Either in CD format or computer software that can help her further learn English to supplement what's she's already doing. - Thanks

Hi,
I am trying to pick up one of these languages - Vietnamese or Khamer. Which is more useful in terms of geographical spread, ease of learning, etc.
If you have any personal experiences, do let me know.

So I'm thinking about studying abroad or moving to either place in the near future.
I plan on studying the languages too. So I'm an Asian-American 100 percent Vietnamese though and I speak Vietnamese (I don't think it'll help me there though :/ )
I'm wondering will I be able to find a job there if I move there?

What is the number to BOXBUSTERS!? Even thought i don´t understand these Asian letters, i prefer them than boxes any day.

How do you say 'His nationality is Vietnamese but he was born in Australia and can speak both languages.' in French?
Also the following -
'He lives in _______, Australia.'?
'He likes to play sports, especially swimming, table tennis and skateboarding.'
'He hates reading and going shopping.'
How do you saw all of that in French please? And don't use an online translator, those aren't really accurate.
Thanks!

I have been piddling around with tapes(Pimsleur), a failed tutor and books with Chinese for the past 6 months. Well I have all but given up. I can speak just fine, but conversation is so hard because I get no interaction on a daily basis.
So I live in Houston, not for too much longer, going to Charlotte soon. But I noticed there are just so many Vietnamese people and it would seem to be much easier to pick it up.
I dont know, maybe I am just speaking out of frustration.
I am asking between the two no other languages.
My major is Geographical Business with a minor in International Business. Plus I will be going to Grad school with the hopes of overseas business in mind.

of consisting teaching, and to some level of fluency, even if sparse? Plus, without actually being in the country that is..
Mind I am Portuguese, and am fluent in other languages like English, French and Spanish, but never had any direct contact with any South East Asian language, and will have only 1 year to learn Vietnamese before I can actually make it there for another full year. I'm just wondering whether it could be any possible for that to happen or whether I am just being naive to think that I might actually be able to reach any level of fluency without being actually being there!
Opinions? lol
Thank you.
@ 1st person: Well History, together with present day papers and reports, tell me that only the elderly speak French still... it's the ex colonizer's language, the youngsters wont be all that familiarized with it anymore, I should think! Or am I wrong about that? Because it sure would help if they did speak French, but then again wanting them to do so would just be neo-colonialist of me! And I will have to be talking to people of all ages.. and interviewing them even if I can... wonder whether the youngsters speak English.. but then again speaking in Vietnamese if I could would just be a lot more fair on the locals. I’ll see what can be done until then I guess...
@Jerry N: But why is it that learning the language wouldn't help? You missed me there? What's your point?
And how can Vietnamese be based on Portuguese sounds? It's been a long time since the Portuguese sailed through the coasts of south East Asia... a few centuries to be more precise, and when they arrived to the place the locals already had their own languages, Mon-Khmer based languages... from the mon-khmer family!!! I have to say mate you have totally lost me on your comment! Anyway, if you can, explain further, tk u!

I've seen people asking about Vietnamese more and more on Yahoo Answer and many other sites. I do understand why people keep asking about language like Russian, Portuguese or Japanese but see no reason how come Vietnamese is now pretty popular. It's not one of 6 UN languages, Vietnamese people aren't everywhere like Chinese and I don't think Vietnam is #1 Tourists' destination or something. Anyone know?

To you linguists what language family do you think each one belongs too. I dont think any of them belong to Sino-Tibetan, and I dont see how people think Korean and Japanese can be Austronesian while Vietnam is closer to Austronesian languages, and I also think Vietnam is more cculturally related to Austronesian than Korea or Japan, because I read that Korea is considered Austronesian because they think people came from eggs, like Austronesians, well the Vietnamese did too, so what language family do you think each one comes from

I'm a Vietnamese graduate student looking for some work-from-home income to pay for my expenses. I'm looking for some English-Vietnamese or Vietnamese-English translation work. I've looked at several websites and registered a profile, but no luck. What's a better way for me to look for this kind of work? Does anyone know someone who needs this kind of translation? I'm very good at both languages.

Me and my wife are from New Orleans and plan to move back in a couple of years. I am starting Pre-Med this fall and want to start learning other languages. New Orleans has a large Vietnamese community, so my goal is to learn Vietnamese down the road because most people that speak a second language in the United States speak either Spanish or French. I want to be different.
None of the colleges I am prospecting teaches Vietnamese, but one of them offers Japanese and Chinese (Manderin).
Personally I am more interested in Japanese, as I am infatuated by their culture and would love to at visit Japan a few times.
But if my ultimate goal is Vietnamese, would either language help me more with Vietnamese? Maybe one is more similar in linguistics, word roots, or characters.
And if anyone happens to have any tips it would be helpful. I have wanted to at least pick up a second language for a while, but my goal is to also look good to a Medical School and/or Hospital.
