I am going to visit many Asian countries. Below are the countries I wanted to visit. I wanted to know are any of these countries unsafe and have lots of crime?
Malaysia
Sri Lanka
Japan
Thailand
Laos
Philippines
Cambodia
Singapore
Vietnam
Papua New Guinea
Bangladesh
Also, before I go, I wanted to be able to speak some of the languages. Which language do these countries speak or do they all speak different languages? Is there 1 language which many of these countries speak?

Me and my wife are from New Orleans and plan to move back in a couple of years. I am starting Pre-Med this fall and want to start learning other languages. New Orleans has a large Vietnamese community, so my goal is to learn Vietnamese down the road because most people that speak a second language in the United States speak either Spanish or French. I want to be different.
None of the colleges I am prospecting teaches Vietnamese, but one of them offers Japanese and Chinese (Manderin).
Personally I am more interested in Japanese, as I am infatuated by their culture and would love to at visit Japan a few times.
But if my ultimate goal is Vietnamese, would either language help me more with Vietnamese? Maybe one is more similar in linguistics, word roots, or characters.
And if anyone happens to have any tips it would be helpful. I have wanted to at least pick up a second language for a while, but my goal is to also look good to a Medical School and/or Hospital.

I'm 17 years old, American girl, working hard my senior year...
My dream has always been to teach english in Vietnam, Japan, or some other Asian country. I love learning foreign languages and about the culture of different countries. Are there any programs that could help me get a job doing this?
Thank you!

How are they able to take citizenship test in Spanish, Vietnamese, Creole, etc?
Could I go to France or Japan and take the citizenship test in English?
I'm looking into moving to Canada, and even taking the citizenship test in FRENCH (it adds more points to your score).
Can I take the Mexican citizenship test in English, what about Haiti?
'Naturalised' is Commonwealth spelling that would probably over the head of an ignorant s**c who knows little English.

I am a college graduate with a B.S in Business Admin and I am working on my masters. I am thinking of teaching English in Asia, but do not know where or what companies to look for. My friend taught english in Japan with a company called GEOS? I am looking for a company that provides salary, benefits and place to live. I am a native english speaker but I also speak vietnamese and chinese.

I am teaching a class of Japanese students about the American media and the Vietnam War. I would love to find some political cartoons to show them - preferably without too much text as they are reading in their second language. The students are 16 years old.
Many thanks
I have googled Vietnam era political cartoons and it is true that many links come up - but they are usually for books/pages that must be paid for. I am based in Japan now so I am unable to visit any exhibitions, and I am English so many websites that I am aware of come from a British angle. I was wondering if anyone knew a RELIABLE FREE site that would offer political cartoons to download/view from the Vietnam War era?

To you linguists what language family do you think each one belongs too. I dont think any of them belong to Sino-Tibetan, and I dont see how people think Korean and Japanese can be Austronesian while Vietnam is closer to Austronesian languages, and I also think Vietnam is more cculturally related to Austronesian than Korea or Japan, because I read that Korea is considered Austronesian because they think people came from eggs, like Austronesians, well the Vietnamese did too, so what language family do you think each one comes from

Originally, Vietnam had its own distinct written language which began in the 13th century.
However, when the French Colony came into Vietnam, their culture heavily influenced Vietnamese written language, thus it became popular and the original became less.
So does anyone have any links that show this original written language? I have never seen it and am interested.
According to wikipedia, the writings looked that of Japan or China, but of course it was different in its own way.
