I guess the alphabet makes it easier, because you don't have to learn the characters like in Chinese but it has got more tones... I also noticed that a lot of words are similar to the Chinese ones. (Not that I know that much Chinese it's just I thing I've noticed.) So overall is it hard?

I am obviously a native English speaker. I speak some Japanese and want to start learning Vietnamese. Should I learn the alphabet and the sounds first? Should I focus on reading and maybe translating? Anything would be helpful. Thanks!

I'm fluent at speaking vietnamese, but i was never taught to read or write because my mom didn't have much education. I really want to learn. i know how to read some words, but most is all from guessing. i was wondering if there was any way i could learn how to write or read online for free. Or anything that could help me at all. i want to learn the basics such as the alphabet and the dots and all the marks(sorry, i dont know how to spell it so i just said that.) lol.

I had set Vietnamese Language as one of the input language through Windows Control Panel - Regional & Language Options - Text services & input language. I can type most of the wording like ê ô â ẻ ã đ and so on..but I can't find how to type like ư - alphabet with marking (looks like aprostophe) beside.

I really want to learn Vietnamese! I'm dying to find a place on web that teaches Vietnamese from basics; alphabet, numbers...etc to advanced teaching. I seriously want a website that teaches Vietnamese as a real teacher. Please give me helpful websites that provides the fullist learning techniques and doesn't give "all over the place" steps of learning. I would also like it to be downloaded as well.If not it would still be of a great help.
