I am a Vietnamese in Australia. I really do not know any websites that teach Vietnamese, but I know some online dictionaries (English Vietnamese and vice versa), which may be of help to your Daughter & Son-in-law.

There are language CD’s available in the stores today. The best way to learn a language is to hire a tutor. Wold be best that the parents also learn the language as it is difficult to know the language if it is not used everyday in conversation.
They have language CDS avalible, or look online for books or classes. i think learning a new language is a wonderful idea.
I’ll say this–I’m not exactly a fount of wisdom, but I want to encourage you because of all the foreign exchange students in our school, the Vietnam kids all learn English faster than anyone else. Something about it being similar to their language….so good luck!
I’ve been researching Mandarin lately, and have come across two different sources that I use. One is the Pimsleur set of audio tapes, which covers conversational language. A more interesting and interactive choice is the Rosetta Stone software, which shows pictures and tells you the specific word, then tests you on it. It starts with easy pictures like dog and cat and ball and plane… the one real downside is the cost, as the software is a bit pricey, but could be good for young children as wll as adults.
