For any language you want to learn, you should first learn the pronounciation, and then continue with everything else
VN pronunciation is unbelievably hard to get right. It takes at least months of practice, maybe years. Hence, I advise you get SOME idea of the pronunciations, so you can have some way of saying the words when learning or trying to use them, but NOT worry about getting the pronunciation anywhere near perfect, and focus on learning a few thousands words and also how to put them together into sentences, which is very different in VN than in english.
knowing how to pronounce the letters will help you with words
My suggestion and experience:
I suggest you to learn the words first and then learn everything else. Because the vietnamese words are written letters unlike Chinese, Japanese, Thai, and others who use characters, it is okay for you to know the language first.
and then once you know the basics of the letters and the pronunciation, and how some words sound like when they go together, you can spell and read more easier
