Am i Chinese or Vietnamese ?

my parents were born in Vietnam and was raised in Vietnam and then moved to Canada and my mom was adopted in Vietnam but they both speak Cantonese does that make me Chinese or Vietnamese

Can someone translate the following sentences to vietnamese for me?

I don't want to waste your time.
Love is not for me.
I am sorry.

what is I LOVE YOU in Vietnamese language?

what is the date when the vietnamese war end?

I'm Vietnamese and of course my parents run nail shops. A lot of people I ask think they talk about you in our language, however that's not really true. Does this offend you? People have to also understand that most of the people that work in the salons, (if not all) came from Vietnam so their English is not that good, which is why they are usually quiet when they do your nails and talk to each other to make way with the boredom/awkwardness.

I'm not a Republican, I'm not a bigot, and I do speak more than English.
This is not directed at people who speak only Spanish or Haitian Creole or Vietnamese. I have experienced numerous times in Florida and California, people who work for the state/ municipal goverments who either don't have a command of the English language, or speak nothing other than 'no speak English' Could I work for Bavaria and not speak German, or Tokyo and not speak Japanese?

Futhermore, I understand that you can get the U.S. citizenship test translated into a language other that English. You can become a citizen of the U.S without speaking fluent English. How is that right?

i have to write a paper on: why do vietnamese gangs tend to commit crimes against their own ethnic community? any ideas?

What are they saying (in Vietnamese)?

Okay, in the movie Platoon, there's a part where the American soldiers ransack this village and they're shouting stuff that I guess is in Vietnamese at these poor villagers... I am wondering what it is they're saying. If you've seen the movie then you'll know what I'm talking about.

One part is where there's some people hiding in this sort of hole thing underground and the soldiers are saying, "La dai" or like "La dai moi" (it sounds like "la die mao") at them to get them to come out. And then there's another part where Barnes is trying to get this one older guy to talk and he gets the guy's daughter and acts like he's going to shoot her and says something like, "I cacadou! I cacadou vee cee!" What the heck does that mean?? I spelled it that way because somebody else wrote it like that on a blog or something so it might be misspelled.

I tried to find the clip on Youtube but it's split into two different clips, and they might take awhile to load so I don't know if anybody wants to take the time but just in case, here they are:

WARNING... this is a really disturbing part of the movie so keep that in mind if you decide to watch it.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
Okay, thanks, but what are the soldiers saying to the villagers when they're yelling at them (I'm a writer and I need to know for a book!)

I go to a nail salon that is run mostly my people who speak English as a second language. I believe that they are Vietnamese. Will they know what I'm talking about if I ask for a half moon manicure?? Or will I sound crazy? Thanks!

How do I love my physical appearance?

I am somewhat of a mutt, ethnically speaking. I am a mixture of a 25% Vietnamese and a 75% mix of European and Native American. This said, I seem to have, in my mind, Acquired many of the undesirable traits of these ethnicities. When I speak Of undesirable traits, I mean to say traits which I find somewhat ugly e.g. A small head that is round on a tall body. Thus, I have trouble accepting my physical appearance. How can I learn to love this body?

Travelling to Vietnam, tips please?

In April this year I'm traveling over to Vietnam to see my Dad who works there, I'm 15 by the way if that helps. Was just wondering about things i should know about going over there, do they speak much English over there? (I'm Australian) and what are some things you recommend doing over there, apart from shopping of course! I'll be on my own a lot as my Dad will be working most in the days and its only me going to visit him. So any tips and help would be much appreciated, also any tips on some basic language I should learn would be helpful
Thanks xxx.
if it helps in staying in Ho Chi Minh city

I misphrased the question earlier. I recently learned to sing VIETNAMESE and I need to add some great if not good songs.

I'm just curious if an dating relationship or an long term marriage relationship could actually work out if you married someone from outside your culture. Say like, if i married an Chinese girl and i am Vietnamese would it actually work out for the both of us ? That would mean that she and i have to speak to each other in English because we can't speak other languages. Do any of you guys think a marriage or an relationship could work out if you get into a relationship with someone outside your culture ?

how can i create my blog in Vietnamese?

Agent Orange and its health effects on Vietnam Vets?

Do you feel that the US government has done enough to help the veterans and their families who are suffering from this?
My cousin who is 62 now, served in Nam and is, as we speak, on life support. His lungs and liver are eat up with cancer. The doctors say it is from the effects of Agent Orange. I am just trying to come to terms with this and want to know what others feel about this. Thanks.

Dating a Vietnamese guy…please help. :O?

So I met my boyfriend online, we've been dating almost a year, and we talk on the phone or webcam almost every day. He moved here with his family from Vietnam when he was 7. His parents are in their 60's, and they can barely speak any English. They did NOT want him dating a girl outside his race, and when they found out he was dating a white girl, they gave him so much hell about it that we had to break up. They kept telling him that I was just using him, I was going to boss him around, I only wanted him for his money, etc. :/
We got back together 11 months ago, and we really love each other...his family has started to accept me, and they want to meet me. I'm so nervous though. My boyfriend says that they will accept me one day as long as I adjust to their culture, and I'm willing to do anything to be with him, I've already started learning Vietnamese...but...someone please help me on how I should act...tell me a bit more about their culture, etc.

anyone speak Vietnamese?

this vietnamese lady gave me this medicine for my acne but the directions are in vietnamese. it says: Rua sach cho da bi benh, boi thuoc ngay 1-2 lan cho toi khi khoi han. Co the dung dai ngay (1-2 thang) de phong benh trung ca tai phat.

what does this mean?

The Vietnamese Language!!?

I know there are different ways to say different words in vietnamese, but i want to know is there a more common way of speaking?
Like in Chinese, it's not really Chinese.. the most common is Mandarin.
if there is a more common way in Vietnamese, Please tell me because i'd really like the learn the most common form of it. ^_^

P.S.
I don't need anyone to tell me it's too hard.. I've already learn some words and can say them without hesitation including an accent.

I'm learning Portuguese and I'm pretty far with that already. I'm intermediate level.
I recently took up German in order to ready myself for when I take it in school next year.
Me and my friend have a competition for who learns Vietnamese fastest.
And I was think about starting to study French as I get bored when I can't find anyone to talk to in the other languages.

Is this too hard to do, or is it possible?
Thanks. :)

This sets Vietnam apart from all other Asian countries. And lots of Vietnamese are of Chinese heritage. I wonder how much trouble they had with the language upon immigration.

Is french taught to children in Vietnam?

Is french taught to children in Vietnamese schools or must people learn the language on their own? I know a young (mid-twenties) woman who came to Canada recently from Vietnam as a teacher and she speaks completely fluent french, as if she grew up with it. I heard french was dying in Vietnam. Is that true or do all kids learn it?

How do you pronounce Happy Birthday in Vietnamese?

I know how to spell and write it, but I'm unsure on how to say it. Thanks everyone who helps!

P.S. Just making sure I have it right, "Chúc mừng sinh nhật" is what I found. Correct me if I'm wrong!

Is Vietnamese hard to learn?

I guess the alphabet makes it easier, because you don't have to learn the characters like in Chinese but it has got more tones... I also noticed that a lot of words are similar to the Chinese ones. (Not that I know that much Chinese it's just I thing I've noticed.) So overall is it hard?

Is "almost all language taxed by war" ?

In the poem Wichita Vortex Sutra, Allen Ginsberg says

"O but how many in their solitude weep aloud like me. On the bridge over the Republican River almost in tears to know how to speak the right language, on the frosty broad road uphill between highway embankments, I search for the language that is also yours, almost all our language has been taxed by war. Radio antennae high tension wires ranging from Junction City across the plains, highway cloverleaf sunk in a vast meadow, lanes curving past Abilene to Denver filled with old heroes of love, to Wichita where McClure's mind burst into animal beauty drunk, getting laid in a car in a neon misted street 15 years ago, to Independence where the old man's still alive who loosed the bomb that's slaved all human consciousness and made the body universe a place of fear."

The part I'm concerned with is where he says "almost all language has been taxed by war", what do you think he meant by that? Do you think that language has really been formed mainly around war and politics of war? If so do you think you can maybe give me some reference to how you know this, it doesn't seem to far fetched to me, considering humans by nature probably have been at war since we've developed linguistics. I understand this was an anti-war song protesting the Vietnam war, and how the politicians were using words to hide the casualties of the war, and how Ginsberg used this poem to reclaim literature in a way for peaceful purposes. Just wondering if all language is really taxed in a way by war.

Sorry for any grammar or spelling errors.
