When people ask me where my parents are from, I say Vietnam but that we're Chinese though. From my appearance, many people guess Vietnamese and I have to go through the same explanation again haha.

My parents can speak Vietnamese but I can only speak Cantonese and Mandarin besides English. I do have an ear for identifying Vietnamese but that's about it. My household eats Chinese and Vietnamese food. I know quite a number of Vietnamese dishes and very little of the Vietnamese language. I plan to learn Vietnamese not too far in the future. My parents express a desire to visit Vietnam again but nothing about China.

I don't have any relatives that work in a nail salon or laundromat.. haha so what do you think I should identify as?

Vietnamese is an easy language for me as I also know all the tones and pronunciation. Some people asked me why am I learning Vietnamese probably because they think it's not imoprtant, but does this mean that I should stop learning vietnamese? Also, when I went to Vietnam, people there were speaking english to me even when i talk to them in Vietnamese....^^

my friend, who is Vietnamese, wrote a note and let me have it. The problem is, its not English. I asked him if it was Vietnamese, planning to go ask my other friend who spoke Vietnamese fluently, and he said no, its Japanese. But he wouldn't tell me what it meant. so i asked my friend who sorta speaks Japanese but she didn't recognize it because it was written in letters, not symbols. so anyway i want to figure out what it meant, so can anyone translate this for me?

I am Vietnamese and i want to learn another language besides english and vietnamese. Lately I have been watching south korean show with english subtitles and I think they're very entertaining. But I think it would be better if I knew Korean so that i don't have to watch it with english subtitles.

I think its written in slang and meant to rhyme. I think a native speaker would know more than the ones raised in the US and please do not use a translator because they didn't help.

I'm thinking about Saigon, and then make my way to the coast or an island. I might only have 10-12 days, is it worth it? I know French, will it be useful at all? I guess I am a little worried about the language barrier.

Hi, my new year's resolution was to learn Vietnamese, and I've checked out some dictionaries and instructional books from my university's library, but they're so difficult to understand... Is there a website I could use to that is easy to understand and thorough?

I'm married to a wonderful wife who is Vietnamese, but her family is a whole other story. I have no problems, but I have taken notices of a few things. The brothers don't get along with other brothers and the same applies with the sisters. The mother does not get along with the father (arraigned marriage). Cousins don't get along with cousins, etc. It's not just the basic family unit, it seems to be Vietnamese society as well. Vietnamese tend to talk behind other people's backs or start drama. It's like there is no harmony and every man for their self. I come from a white community and we really didn't have anything like that. Has anyone taken notice of this?

I am just curious bc I am am african american woman and I have had 4 Asian Guys who have wanted to date me. All three of them have been Vietnamese.
Out of curiosity are the Vietnamese more tolerate towards interracial dating than other types of Asians. Also what are Vietnamese Men like, especially when it comes to culture and what not? Do they prefer the traditional lifestyle in which woman stays at home, man works? Do they marry early. I am just trying to find out some basic information about Vietnamese Culture.

I also know that this guy who likes me is 23 and he has been over in the States for quite some time, however he does still have an accent and speak Vietnamese. He also told me a bit about the vietnamese culture and how in Vietnam lighter skin is prized over a darker complexion, however he always tells me how beautiful my color is and jokingly said that we'd make some cute 'blasian babies, haha

I just think it's very odd that thus far I have only had Vietnamese Asians attempt to date me, which leads me to think that the Vietnamese are more likely to date oustide their race.

Why do you assume that I don't like it? I was just posing a question. God. Maybe you should be questioning why you think I hate it? Plus my daughter knows Spanish and she's caught people saying stuff about us. Same thing for my friend who knows French.
