My parents were born in Vietnam but we're Chinese. They know how to speak Vietnamese on top of Chinese and sometimes speak it to hide their discussions from my sister and I as we don't understand it.
I told them Vietnamese sounded Hindi and they just laughed it off.
Are they related in any way? Because some tones sound shrill.

I am Vietnamese, my husband is Korean, we communicate both in Korean and English. I want to talk to my little son both in Vietnamese and English, but i prefer speaking E to him, because learning E in Korean will spend a lot of money in Korea. I speak E with strong accent and sometimes i speak in incorrect grammar and incorrect pronunciation, i afraid that i teach my son informal and incorrect E. But i really want to teach him E. Tell me your advice, guys. Thanks so much

I met this girl at my school and she's Vietnamese. She was saying that I probably couldn't speak Vietnamese if I tried. So, I really like her and I thought a good way to tell her that I like her would be to tell her in Vietnamese.
If any native speakers could give me a guide on how to pronounce the words and stuff, I will love you forever!

I am Vietnamese American and I'm fluent in english since I was born in America. I can't speak Vietnamese but I do understand it when my parents speak it or others do, but the thing is I want to learn a different language at school. Is it possible for me, who can't speak my native tongue, speak an entirely different language without knowing my own language first?

I've been trying to find websites, videos,or software on learning vietnamese and so far,I haven't come up with one decent one. I don't want to learn phrases but more advanced, like writing and identifying letters and words in Vietnamese ,and also how to pronunciate correctly. I'm all for free recommendations out there~

I see my daughter once a week because my wife and I are divorced. When she's with my wife, my wife speaks to her in Chinese. I am Vietnamese, and I'd like my daughter to know Vietnamese. But since I have her only one day per week, I wonder if she would feel confused because she is not exposed to Vietnamese everyday. She's 20 months old. Will her learning Vietnamese one day per week confuse her?
